Ihsahn – Arcana Imperii

Now this is news! Ihsahn just released a song off his upcoming album ÀMR to be released May 4. If you are following him you most likely are aware of this one, but I will torture you with my opinion nonetheless.

First of all there is a big dynamic shift going on, as the keyboards are almost non-existent here. They show up just for the climax of the song, to great effect. Still this hasn’t been they way Ihsahn has sounded in a long time. I would expect the new album to be heavily guitar driven.

Also the angular riffing seems a departure from the previous album Arktis. which was more power-metal inclined. Actually they remind me of another great Ihsahn song off the album Eremita, Introspection
